A downloadable game

The animals of the forest have come together for the annual Acorn Race! Choose which animal you will be as you vie for fastest critter of the forest by building the best deck you can. Beat the other animals to the finish line and show the tortoise and the hare who the fastest animal really is!

The Acorn Race is a deck building, competitive game. You are attempting to win a race through the forest by building the best deck and beating your opponents to the finish line.

This game was created as part of INTD 350 at the University of Alberta, taught by Michael Bowling.

Install instructions

To import the game file into Tabletop Simulator: 

  • Download the .json file
  •  Put the file...
    • On a Mac: The files have to be stored in "~/Library/Tabletop Simulator/Saves".  Under Finder you can select Go > Go to Folder and enter in that location.
    • On Windows: The files have to be stored in "Documents/My Games/Tabletop Simulator/Saves"
  • Start Tabletop Simulator and start a custom game. Load the custom file titled "The Acorn Race TTS".

NOTE: Only the host of the game has to have the custom file loaded to play the game. 


To print and play: 

  • Download The Acorn Race Physical Files zip and unzip it. 
  • Print off 1 copy of each game deck (Forage, Starter, and Trap) and print off 4 copies of the game board.
  • Align the game board into an oval, and demarcate one spot as the starting line - it doesn't matter which one!

NOTE: You will need to find some household objects to use as pawns for each player, such as pawns from other games or tokens, etc.

Any chance for a Print & Play version?

My kids would love this, but aren't going to play with TTS...
